~*~*~Scotland~*~*~

Kat apparated the group of them [Cal, Keeley, and Kat] to Scotland – she was the only one who could get there. Quietly, she brought them up the driveway to her house, a nice place, nothing fancy, on a street in your average suburbia.

Her parents weren't home – the house was dark and the car was gone. She pulled out the key she'd grabbed out from her room and opened the door, switching on the lights. She led Calvin and Keeley upstairs and left them to do whatever they felt like – on condition that they didn't leave the house yet.

Then she came back downstairs and smiled nervously at Ragnar. “They should be back soon...”

Ragnar walked inside and set his bags down"you look nervous," he said giving her a kiss"relax it'll be fine," he reassured her pulling her into an embrace hopefully....

Kat shook her head, but she could already feel a lull coming over her. The safety of being at home, in her house. Knowing she could go upstairs and open the door and it would be her room, which her parents had promised not to touch. Knowing that even if it wasn't protected by magic, no one could hurt her here.

Feeling this new sense of security, something she hadn't felt in a while, she started slipping back to the person she'd been before she'd ever moved to England to stay. And because of that, she was suddenly more talkative, more open. More innocent, almost.

“I dunno...have you met my parents? No...of course you haven't, that's why you're here now...I mean, they're amazing people, they've always been there for me, but they're a little on the...over-protective side.”

She shrugged her shoulders, the fear coming back to her. “I haven't told them about....They don't know what...” She stopped, unable to speak for a moment - “I didn't tell them what happened...or, almost happened. They don't know anything...because I was so scared of their reaction. And now I'm afraid they'll pin it on you, they're not going to like you...”

She heard a car door slam outside. “Oh God, they're here...” She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him, before pulling away and waiting anxiously for them to reach the door.

Ragnar frowned well that was reassuring he thought going to take a seat.

Kat watched him sit, wishing she could do the same, but instead she paced frantically in front of the door, until finally it opened, and she saw her parents – middle-aged, her father was tall with short brown hair, and her mother had hair that was dark, like Kat's, yet her face was sharper. More commanding.

When Mrs. Carr saw her daughter, she was, to say the least, surprised. Kat was in England, working. Why was she there – and who was the rather strange figure in the chair? She ignored him for the moment, enveloping Kat in a hug, with the usual motherly commentary of “how are you” and “what have you been doing” and “why haven't you written to me?”

Kat did her best to answer, but when she heard one particular question – “Who's he?” [directed towards Ragnar] – the questions suddenly stopped and she had to answer that one.

“Mum...Dad...umm...this is my boyfriend, Ragnar O'donnell...” she said, quietly, motioning that he should stand and join them.

Kat's mother looked at Ragnar, giving him one steady stare up and down. She took in the scars and the physical figure. Just from the way he stood – there was something about him that she didn't like. She turned to her husband, and he just shrugged, so she turned to Kat, opened her mouth, and finally said - “Your...boyfriend, you say?”

Kat nodded. “Yeah. Aren't you going to say hello?” She could tell this would not end well.

After a moment's whispered conference, Kat was sent out to the kitchen to get food, and her mother said, “Ragnar – interesting name – would you tell us a bit about yourself?”

Ragnar decided to just tell them the truth"I'm an ex death eater. I started knowing Kat as one but she changed my life for the better. My name is now cleared. I have no family. All have been killed...that's just about me," he said now wincing as he waited for their reaction.

Her mother seemed to hear nothing but the two words 'Death Eater', and those two words had her jaw set in a line before Ragnar could finish talking. “You were...one of them?” she asked, slowly. “And you think you can just date my daughter? You think I'm going to be okay with that?”

Her words, the disgust - “You could hurt her, you could kill her. You might say you've changed but old habits die hard – what are you, twenty-seven? How long have you been a DE? When did you meet my daughter? I doubt it's equal amounts of time...”

"A couple of months and all I've been doing is protecting her. Keeping her out of trouble. I see you'll just judge me for who I've been. See people who judge...never get to know the real person. That is how Kat is different. She didn't judge me. I never once hurt your daughter, and I definatly won't hurt anyone or do anything in the name of the darklord again," he defended.

Her eyes trained in on his face, narrowing. “If you ever let anything happen to my daughter, you will be sorry you ever laid eyes on her! Are we clear on that?”

Even though he had said he wouldn't hurt her, she did not trust him. She couldn't – he'd admitted to being a Death Eater. “Any other awful parts of your past you should tell us about now, so we don't have to discover them on our own and wonder why exactly you failed to tell us?”

Ragnar sighed. Here came the hard part"I'm not exactly twenty seven...I'm actually one hundred and twenty seven years old trapt in this state," he said shoing his fangs.

Mrs. Carr backed up several steps, bumping in to her husband, who spoke his first words to Ragnar since his entry into the house. “Get out of the house. Now. And don't come back. You are going to stay away from Kat, you aren't going to have anything to do with her. You aren't going to associate with her here, you aren't going to visit her when you're back in London.”

His voice was like glass, cold and smooth and polite, yet sharp. He, like his wife, wasn't about to trust someone who was a vampire and a Death Eater.

Kat was listening at the door by this time, and when her parents said this - she knew she wasn't going to be able to argue with them, but she didn't want them to say that.

Ignoring their request that she stay in the kitchen, she stormed through the door. "Dad!" she said, firmly. "You can't just make him leave!"

Before Kat had even moved Ragnar was out the door already making his way down of the driveway what do they know? Nothing...they're just mortals...they've had eachother and I've had absolutly no one until Kat came along. This is a mess, he thought.

Kat glared at her parents. “What do you know?” she shouted at them. “What do you know about anything? Do you realize I wouldn't be standing here before you right now, as alive and as healthy as I am, if he wasn't in my life? I could be dead, that's how much he's done for me! And you're just making him leave!”

She was furious. Before they had a chance to respond, she whispered - “If I didn't have someone as amazing as him in my life I would've been raped.”

She ran up the stairs and to her room, slamming the door behind her. She knew what she had to do. She locked the door from the inside and opened the window. She didn't want to ditch Calvin, but she had to find Ragnar. Which meant, even though she was nineteen and technically her own person, she had to sneak out.

She cast spells out the window to slow her fall, and jumped gracefully, landing on her feet and setting off running. By the time she reached the front of the house, she could see Ragnar walking up the road. “Raggy!” she called, trying to run after him.

Ragnar turned around as he heard Kat and waited. He wasn't angry at all just tired. Tired of his past. He managed a liggt smile as he looked at Kat.

When he stopped and turned, she all but leaped across the remaining space between them and threw herself into his arms. “Raggy I love you. No matter what they say I am not going to let them take you away from me...” She wrapped her arms tighter around his neck, in the middle of the empty street. She knew, at that moment, that she loved him. And for that moment, her anger at her parents erased all fear and hesitation. “I love you,” she repeated, and she kissed him. Really kissed him.

Ragnar closed his eyes and kissed her back long and hard wrappings his arms tightly around her. Clouds started to form in the sky as he pulled away from her and ran a hand across her cheek"I love you too Kat, you're the only one I've ever felt this deeply for in my life," he said as it began to rain harder and harder. Soon it was pouring heavily.

Ragnar took off his jacket and since it was big for Kat he put it around her letting her keep warm"lets get you back inside," he said keeping one arm around her as he guided her back home.

She snuggled in against him, smiling contentedly. When the rain started she shivered, but was grateful for his coat – pulling it around her, she continued to lean against him. Sure of herself, she was only worried about one thing, which she addressed as she walked.

“My parents...don't exactly know I came after you. And I told them about...what almost happened. I don't want to face them – I don't see how they can tell me I can't be with you, when that's all I really want?”

Ragnar sighed"it's always best to hear your parents out...at least you have them...if anything goes bad I'll be waiting by the door okay?" he said looking at her as they walked.
